iPad Controlled Lego Robot Band Makes Music

The use of Arduino and Raspberry Pi has equipped anyone with the ability to create a real-life working robot. This is no exception for Joseph Acito, sound designer and producer with over 20 years in the music industry

Joseph Acito introduces this video on his blog:

“Toa Mata Band is a band of small robots Series LEGO Bionicle playing mini electronic instruments. Everything is controlled by a MIDI sequencer for the iPad, the app Clavia NordBeat whose notes are converted into electrical impulses by an Arduino Uno.”

The use of Arduino to make anyone a robot genius was one of the key messages from a talk Chris Anderson, former Editor-in-Chief turned robot thought leader, focused on at Expand this weekend. Anderson’s new venture 3D Robotics and DIY Drone use Arduino to create aerial drones fully equipped with cameras. We covered a demo of one of his robots here

Done? More work in progress shots in the previous post. Artwork tends to evolve as you go along, but this piece managed to capture exactly what I was looking for, which was a slightly more Japanese Manga Anime kinda feel. Drop us a note to let us know how you like it? =)

Yesterday I shared a peek at the Ninja platform game we’re working on. Today lets change gears and show you a piece of art for the 4th mini game in our soon to be released minigame suite.

(the second image shows, a reference image of an in game sprite from our dragon game. both the dragon game & the minigame suite exist in the same universe)

At Takeout Arcade we make casual-ish games for iOS and android devices. But we can’t help every now and then from being inspired by AAA titles. Such as the recently launched Diablo 3. A casual game pushes the limits of what a player might do in a casual pocket of time.
A game like Diablo 3, pushes the limits of games, period! For many of us, the launch of Diablo 3 could be life changing, as we try to, manage daily life, and the life of the character we take on in the game. May you find that balance!
As a tribute, and just because we’re fanboys (and girl) here’s a reimagination of the Diablo 3 barbarian character, if Diablo 3 were an iOS or android casual game.

In-game Animation Sprites from the dragon game we’re working on. It’s been quite a learning curve for all of us. Picking up Unity, designing art specifically for the game, as well as the many little decisions that go into every aspect of game development. At long last we’re seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, with a release in sight;)
